Following the success of our first collab with QSP, we had a tank full of enthusiasm for our second round of customized Penguins. From the pivots to the packaging, we’ve spent the last several months getting each detail dialed in perfectly – and we’re stoked to share.

Purple Perfection. Following the success of our inaugural release of the Purple Ti Penguin earlier this year, we’ve brought back the fan favorite for this week’s finale. A Blank Canvas: Model number 2 dropping this week is our all silver bead blasted titanium frame lock Penguin, complete with Penguin pivot screw and all titanium hardware. S35VN blade along with the rest of the herd - an upgrade over almost all other waddlers in the wild. The inspiration for this model came from countless hours of scrolling through penguin mods on r/knifeclub or the gram, and we wanted to bring a cost effective blank canvas for tinkerers to toy with. Tag us with your creations, or enjoy as a subtle powerhouse for your pocket.

Pivots: New for this week’s Ti Penguin Tuesday release we’re introducing hardware updates to all Kaviso Penguin owners, starting with the world-famous Penguin Pivots. Swap out the Drop ‘D’ pivot on your original Penguin, experiment with anodizing your own hardware, or spice up your EDC with a splash of color. These anodized titanium additions are available now, in limited quantities.

All black penguins are rare - approximately one in a zillion according to Nat Geo. Luckily for you, our QSP Collab is making the all black waddler a realistic possibility for your pocket. Marbled carbon fiber show scales with a unique-to-each-knife swirl pattern paired nicely with all black titanium hardware – screws, spacers, and thumbstuds. Mokuti? We know – most Mokuti laden folding knives are reserved for collectors with deep pockets. But not anymore. We think of the mind bending Mokuti pocket clip as the perfect garnish to the titanium frame lock penguin. S35VN blade steel, all titanium hardware including Kaviso signature penguin pivot, and individually serialized to boot. If our spring launch was any indication, this fan favorite will go fast.

Fat Carbon materials are truly a work of art. The manufacturing team in Lithuania have been a pleasure to work with over the last few years on several Kaviso projects, and when we brought up the Penguin, they were keen to collab. For show side scales we landed on Dark Matter, a heat resistant composite using recycled carbon fiber rowing, biobased resin, organic pigments, combined using renewable energy. Even more impressive is the intricate details hidden within these scales – blue or green vivid dashes of color throughout.

Did we stop at cool scales? Clearly not. What fun is biobased carbon fiber if the rest of the knife doesn’t match? We test anodized a dozen sets of titanium to find shades we loved (and complimented that Dark Matter CF) and went all out – Frame of the knife, hardware, pivots, even the thumb studs have all been anodized in small batches to complement the Dark Matter colorways.

Kudos to all who participated in our Penguin Pivot Poll back in the spring. Following the results of that poll, we conjured up a few penguin inspired designs for QSP to test out. Through trial and error and much determination, the penguin pivot was born. We combined the flames of the QSP logo with our favorite black and white waddler for a Kaviso Exclusive spin on the classic pivots – because if we’re going to trick out a knife, we’re going to trick out EVERYTHING about it. Ano’d to match the rest of the hardware? You betcha.

Perfectly centered, flat grind S35VN sheepsfoot blade with thumb stud openers on both sides for snappy, easy deployment of the blade. A substantial upgrade over D2, S35VN is a sweet spot for steel hardness, ease of maintenance, and corrosion resistance. Jimping on the spine of the blade for better grip when cutting or carrying.

Developed by Crucible Industries (one of the leading manufacturers of specialty steels for the cutlery industry) and Chris Reeve (arguably the most famous knifemaker in the world), S35VN is perhaps the most balanced blade steel ever created in terms of all-around performance. It’s made through a process of Crucible Particle Metallurgy (CPM), which results in near perfect consistency in the distribution of carbides. Compared to conventional melting practices, the CPM process produces a steel characterized by superior dimensional stability, grindability, and toughness.
