Awesome lnife for a great price! Love my Penguins!!!
Was between sizes with a 19” torso. Went with the large.
I ordered this a while back, before I had my gear dialed in, and wasn’t a fan carrying around 25 pounds total. Once I got my summer base weight down to 9.5 pounds and my shoulder-season base weight to 12.6, it was an absolute game changer.
I can’t do frameless packs, and HMG’s no-load-lifter thing doesn’t work for me. If you’ve gotten your load down into the UL or very lightweight range but still want a framed pack that won’t completely swallow your gear—leaving everything shifting around inside a bunch of extra fabric—look no further.
I was considering buying an Arc Haul 40 since I already have the 50 for bear-canister hikes, but that felt like some expensive redundancy. I’m glad I went with the Kakwa instead. Both packs shine in their own ways, and for the price, the Kakwa is extremely well thought out and well made.
My only gripe is that when you’re fully loaded with bottles during the summer, the small stash pocket is basically rendered useless.
This is my second Kakwa40 pack. I got my first one when they were first released several years ago and really liked it. I used it just recently hiking the TMB for 11 days. I like the light weight of it, but during the hike the material started to tear where the right hip belt attaches to the pocket. I contacted Kaviso and was answered by "Dana" who worked with me to obtain a new pack for a discount, even though mine was out of the warranty period. This new one has some improvements: Better lash points, a bigger pocket, and different material. I can't wait to try it out. Thans Kaviso and Dana.

Great knife, great price, arrived quickly. This was my first purchase from Kaviso and I'm a happy customer!
Great process all around. Received order next day. Will definitely be ordering ultralight backpacking gear from them again. Also love that they are local to where I live.
I believe that Kaviso was born out of MassDrop or so I was told. I enjoyed the variety of knives and purchased several. All this to say my shopping experience with Kaviso was flawless. I'll be shopping again soon
Such a lovely color
Even better than the Malibu.
Great listing, prompt shipping, clear and concise communication. Happy to support a local business and still have access to national brands.
Incredibly versatile design. Well constructed for durability. I get stopped and complimented or to answer questions about it.
Fast delivery
Light, simple, and surprisingly capable. The Kakwa 40 hits a sweet spot between ultralight and real load-carrying comfort. The frame actually works, transferring weight to the hips, so carrying around 8–12 kg still feels stable on long hikes.
The Ultra fabric is tough and weather-resistant, and the pocket layout is practical for quick access on the move. It’s clearly designed by someone who hikes a lot.
Downsides? It’s not for heavy loads, and the minimal design means no fancy organization—pack smart or struggle.
👉 Verdict: A great choice for ultralight hikers and fastpackers who know how to pack efficiently.
